American Girl in Paris

On my last voyage to Paris, I had the unfortunate luck that even the best laid sartorial plans could not overcome. It rained. A lot. And for the first few days, it was freezing. Weatherman bemoaned, my carefully articulated outfits with layered accoutrements had no place or purpose. My lofty plans of finding the perfect fashionable yet walkable shoes turned out to be a bust, (I cracked 2 days in and bought Stella McCartney for Adidas joggers). The cobblestone streets lining the Champs Elysee outdid even the Cole Haan (with Nike technology) pumps and flats I bought just for the occasion; which ended up slightly spraining my ankle. Who knew I couldn't walk in flats? This just confirmed my penchant for heels.

Needless to say this adventure didn't go as planned, so my photos of the journey are less than I had desired. Don't judge! Paris weather is unpredictable!!

Walking through the Marais in the rain. Followed by sweets at the divine, Gerard Mulot.

Better weather followed. This day consisted of trips to the famous Cafe de la Paix, right next to the L'Opera Garnier. Later on to Montmartre, including Sacre Coeur.

Finally, our trip ended after a day trip to magnificent Versailles. This place was beyond magical and totally captured my imagination. It would be the perfect setting for a high fashion shoot (which I'm sure has been done many times). Here are some examples below from Vogue Sept '07.

Much to my dismay/fright at first, we took a segway tour of the property due to the sheer size, and to get the best overview. It was easy to imagine riding horseback or in a carriage down the dirt and pebble lanes as I felt the wind blowing in my face at 15 mph. I imagined I was a young Marie Antoinette, as I stared out at the sheep and horses in the fields.
My yellow and gold pinstriped Juicy blouse was a running joke as it resembled the "yellow shirts" of the Tour de France.

Below is one of the magical passageways outlying one of Marie Antoinette's country cottages.
